The Sunburg Heritage Arts Initiative has several workshops scheduled.
Introduction to rosemary: October 9, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunburg Community Center; $ 20; limited to 10 students aged 18 and over; instructor Lynette Swanson. Students will make a heart project using acrylic paints and will be brought home at the end of class. All materials are included in the registration fee. Masks are mandatory for all students who are not fully vaccinated. Bring your own midday lunch or eat at the local cafe. Violin workshop: October 17, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Hope Lutheran Church; open to all violinists of any age with two or more years of playing experience strongly encouraged; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Learn violin tunes and techniques in small and large groups and perform in a student / teacher concert at 4 p.m. at the end of the workshop. The instructors are Cristina Seaborn and Dempsey Schroeder. Maggie Harp is the accompanist on piano and guitar. Prior registration required before October 11, number of places limited. The Jolly Twirlers Square Dance Club will teach the art of square dancing to singles and couples of all ages. Classes run from 6:30 pm to 9 pm on Thursdays starting November 4 at the Willmar Community Center, dancers from the Jolly Twirlers serve as mentors to new dancers as they learn the different “calls” of square dancing. Adults $ 3 per lesson, students 16 and under are $ 1.50.
Willmar Community Education has several art related courses planned. Pre-registration is compulsory for all courses. Cooking classes are on the Food and Drink calendar elsewhere in today’s newspaper.
Stained glass for beginners: October 26, 7 to 9 p.m. and November 6 and 13, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Willmar Senior High School, 15 years and over; instructor Tom Nelson; $ 85 for fees plus $ 25 to $ 70 for supplies; from cutting and soldering, complete a copper foil project during class. Lead assembly techniques will be demonstrated.
Cave painting : Did you find any painted rocks outside around Willmar? Learn how to create your own! Paints, brushes and stones will be provided for each class. Classes are 10:30 am to noon on Saturdays at the Jefferson Learning Center, ages 5 and up; 5-11 year olds must register with a responsible adult; $ 5 for the first person, $ 3 for each additional family member; instructor Sarah Miller. Four courses are planned this fall. They are:
Cave painting dinosaurs: On October 9, learn how to paint these colorful dinosaurs yourself, including tips and tricks to help you gain confidence as a painter and be guided through painting your own mini dinosaur collection.
Cave painting lettering: On November 13, check out tips for getting started with lettering in addition to some simple background designs that will amaze anyone who sees your work.
Cave painting dwarves: December 11, step by step instructions for painting your own gnomes. In addition to the basic instructions, you will learn a few simple variations to make your gnome unique for any personality or vacation.
