Greensboro Elementary School Teacher Wins Prestigious Teacher of the Year Award from Star Pianist Lang Lang | Education

The Lang Lang International Music Foundation has received dozens of nominations from teachers across the United States, and after careful consideration by their independent review board, they are proud to honor Mr. Davis Cahill of Jefferson Elementary School , in Guilford County, North Carolina, as the first Keys of Inspiration Music Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Cahill has taught in the school’s Keys of Inspiration program for five years. During this period he developed and directed a two-week summer program which was developed through the Guilford County Summer Arts Institute; provided private after-school piano lessons for students (plus an adult guitar student!); and created a safe and creative space in his classroom where he teaches community, empathy and critical thinking.

The Lang Lang International Music Foundation® believes that at the foundation of any strong music program is a dedicated teacher who inspires creativity and joy in their students. That’s why this year they launched the Keys of Inspiration® Music Teacher of the Year Award, which recognizes the achievement, creativity and excellence of Keys of Inspiration® teachers around the world.

Mr. Cahill will be honored at the Lang Lang & Friends New York Gala Dinner and Concert on September 21 at Cipriani Broadway. During which, he will meet Lang Lang, receive a $5,000 award, certificate and recognition on the LLIMF website. In addition to his presence and recognition at the LLIMF gala, he will also be leading a workshop on Friday, September 23 for young LLIMF scholars titled “Servant-Leadership and Passing the Torch.” This workshop will explore what, why and how young scholars can contribute to our next generation of people, and it will give them tips and actions they can use when performing and teaching.
