Julia Roberts announced as the winner of the Academy Museum’s Icon Award

julia robert will have to make a little extra room on her coat when she receives the Academy Museum Gala Icon Award this fall. The 54-year-old star, who can already boast an Oscar, three Golden Globes and a SAG Award (not that she’d do that, she’s way too classy) will receive her award at the big shindig on October 15, according Variety.

Previously announced winners for this year’s event include Tilda Swintonwinning the Visionary Award, Steve McQueenwinning the Vantage award. Miky Lee, producer of Parasite and many other South Korean films, will receive a Pillar Award.

The inaugural gala in 2021 presented Sophie Loren with a visionary award, tom hank, Annette Benningand former Disney boss Bob Iger with the pillar prices, and Haile Gerimaa teacher, directorand key member of the LA Rebellion Groupwith the Vantage award.

The new president of the Academy Museum, Jacqueline Stewartsays that the Erin Brockovitch and A pretty woman star “has embodied iconic characters and memorable roles,” and that her organization is “delighted to continue to honor her excellence in the industry and her contribution to the arts.”

Roberts’ long-awaited return to romantic comedies, opposite George Clooneyarrives in October ticket to paradise. It happens to be released in the United States six days after this event. What a coincidence !!

The museum also announced its 2022 Gala Host Committee, which includes Adrian Brody, Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose, Awkwafina, Billie Lourd, Bryce Dallas Howard, Chloë Sevigny, Colman Domingo, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Darren Criss, Eddie Redmayne, Eiza González, Elle Fanning, Emma Roberts, George C. Wolfe, Glenn Close, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba, Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, Thomas Sadoski, Jon Hamm, Jonathan Majors, Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Keke Palmer, Kid Cudi, Kirsten Dunst, Leonardo DiCaprio, Letitia Wright, Lily Collins, Lucy Liu, Natasha Lyonne, Orlando Bloom, Regina Hall, Renée Zellweger, Riley Keough, Robert Duvall, Ron Howard, Ruth Negga, and Selma Blair, among others. (These names were clearly listed by first name rather than last name, which is not the way we like to do business, but never agreeing 100% with Academy decisions is part of the tradition, right?)

The gala, which raises funds for the museum, is sponsored by Rolex, and the evening will be co-organized by Halle Berry, Jason Blum, Lupita Nyong’oand ryan murphy. The 2021 event raised more than $11 million, and in late October the museum entered the NFT Companycreating collectible digital versions of his Pillar Award.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, operated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, opened to the general public on September 30, 2021. The 300,000 square foot campusdesigned by 84-year-old Italian architect Renzo Piano, Features two rooms, more than 13 million photographs, 67,000 posters and 137,000 works of art.
