OBU Music Preparation Program Now Enrolls For Fall


The OBU Music Preparation Department is now accepting registrations for the Fall 2021 semester. OBU Music Prep offers high quality private music lessons, classes and choirs to members of the community and surrounding area. The program has options for students aged 5 and over and accepts beginner to advanced level students. The faculty includes OBU professors, outstanding musicians from the community, and talented OBU music majors. All classes are held at the main OBU campus in Shawnee.

Private lessons are available in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion and drums. Classes are scheduled directly with the instructor on the day and time that best suit the student. The fall semester runs from August 19 to December 10, comprising 14 weekly lessons and a performance opportunity. The registration deadline is August 5 for better availability.

The music preparation department also offers three choir options. Joyful Voices, for grades 1 to 6, is an unauditioned choir that will meet on Mondays from 4 pm to 5:30 pm Two auditioned choirs are also available. Shawnee Honor Choir, for grades 3 to 7, meets Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Concert Choir, for grades 7 to 12, meets Tuesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The Shawnee Honor Choir and Concert Choir auditions will take place on Wednesday, August 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Auditions require a reservation. Keyboard Concepts, a group piano lesson for young beginners ages 5 and 6, will meet Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This course prepares the young student to succeed later in private lessons. Students will learn fundamental music skills in a fun group atmosphere. Classes meet weekly for 14 weeks and include a performance opportunity at the end of the semester.
