ROCKWALL, TX (August 2, 2022) The Rockwall Music Teachers Association recently announced the recipients of its new Glynda King Piano Leadership and Service Scholarship.
The scholarship, which was open to the entire community, was established in honor of Glynda King – a beloved piano teacher, friend, community pianist and RMTA member who died in August 2021 after battling breast cancer. pancreas.
Lorien Brit, Graduated from Rockwall High School in 2022, received a $1500 scholarship. She will attend the Manhattan School of Music, starting in the fall of 2022, majoring in Flute Performance. She has studied flute and piano for many years and is looking forward to continuing her studies in New York.
A longtime member of LakePointe Church in Rockwall, she performed monthly in the Classic Service volunteer orchestra for the past few years and knew Glynda King personally, as Glynda was the Classic Service pianist. Lorien has volunteered within his church as well as within the Rockwall community on behalf of the Rockwall County Library, Rockwall Helping Hands and Providence Academy.
She is one of the top university students, ranked 8th in her class of nearly 700 students. She was a member of the Rockwall High School Marching Band, RHS Wind Ensemble, Varsity Symphony Orchestra and RHS Musical Theatre’s Pit Orchestra. She was a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and has won numerous local, all-region and all-state performance awards through the Texas Music Educators Association.
The RMTA wishes Lorien continued success in his musical studies and future musical career!
Aurora Attar13 years, Audrey Attar11 years and Ava Attar, 11, each received a $500 scholarship, making a total of $1,500. They individually submitted requests for scholarships, to be used for the purchase of a new piano. Their piano is quite old and doesn’t hold the melody very well. They would like to get a much better instrument to help them in their learning and playing the piano.
Each girl is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, an exemplary student within her school, and an active member of the Matter Dei Catholic parish. They are students of RMTA member teacher Allie Park and have participated in several piano recitals as well as local piano competitions and festivals.
Aurora will be a freshman at Royse City High School in the fall and has her sights set on attending Julliard one day. Audrey will attend Bobby Summer Middle School. She will continue her piano studies and is thinking of joining the group at school.
Ava will attend Bobby Summer Middle School and continue her piano studies and learn to play the guitar.
The RMTA wishes Aurora, Audrey and Ava continued success in piano studies and finding a new piano!
